This policy describes how RPS Ladder (“we”, “us”) collects and uses information when you play at rpsladder.com.

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run ranked games and accounts:

• Guest play. A random ID is stored in your browser so we can keep your guest rating. We also set a signed guest cookie so that rating stays with this browser.
• Accounts. If you register, we store a username and a hashed password. We do not collect an email address or your real name. Guest ratings on this browser can carry over to the new account.
• Gameplay. We store your display name, Elo rating, games played, badges, and when the player record was created. Match results may be logged so we can operate and improve the game.
• Preferences. Theme and sound settings are saved in your browser only.
• Technical data. Your IP address may be used temporarily to limit sign-ups and failed logins. It is not stored as part of your player profile.

Live matchmaking and rounds use a realtime connection between your browser and our servers.

Cookies

We use these first-party cookies:

• rps_guest — keeps your guest identity (about 400 days).
• rps_session — keeps you logged in after you create or sign in to an account (about 400 days).

These cookies are set by our site, marked HttpOnly, and use SameSite=Lax. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies.

How we use information

We use this information to:

• Run matches, ratings, and the leaderboard
• Keep you signed in and restore guest progress on this browser
• Protect the service from abuse (rate limits and similar checks)

We do not sell your personal information.

Sharing

Usernames, ratings, and leaderboard standings are public on the site. We use a cloud hosting provider to operate rpsladder.com. They process data only as needed to host the service. We may disclose information if required by law.

Retention

Player and account records are kept while the service is operating so ratings and usernames stay consistent. Guest progress depends on cookies and browser storage; clearing them starts you over as a new guest. Rate-limit data is held only for a short window.

Your choices

You can play as a guest without creating an account. You can log out, clear this site’s cookies and local storage, or stop using the site. Clearing cookies or site data will drop a guest rating tied to this browser.

Children

RPS Ladder is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do.
